Public Library

The Magoffin County Public Library serves Magoffin County and its population of over 13,000 citizens. Melanie Arnett Cain is its director. The new state-of-the-art facility’s ribbon cutting is scheduled for June 2019. It is located one block from the center red light in downtown Salyersville.

Director Cain and the staff of the Magoffin County Public Library realize the important role they play in the community. This is especially true where higher academic resources are absent. Today’s library embraces technology to benefit people of all ages. Innovative programs and services coupled with an awe-inspiring building filled with books, media, computers, and an environment fostering creativity provides the catalyst for lifelong learning and achievement. Local students attending college stand to benefit most because the nearest college campus is approximately 20 miles away. The library provides a local opportunity for research and the completion of assignments.

Other roles of the library include archiving history, collecting data, fostering learning, and providing information and learning opportunities for everyone. These are vital for our success. This is especially true as Appalachia transitions to a more diversified economy, not solely dependent on coal. Opportunity abounds. The library stands to improve the lives of Magoffin’s and Salyersville’s citizens by providing a resource for the capture of knowledge and intellectual pursuit. The role of the library is crucial for the improvement of the lives of our people. It is the intellectual mainstay of Magoffin County.

The library can be reached at 606-349-2411. Ideas and suggestions regarding programs, services, or other input is always welcome.

Service to the community is the most important goal of the Magoffin County Public Library.
